Is my Kindle counting as Screen Time?

The experience on the Kindle has been really good, wait wait wait, you must be wondering what is a Kindle, right? Well, let me tell you, what is it? A Kindle is a small handheld electronic device for reading books, which has been developed by online retailer Amazon.

Why This Matters to Me

I really appreciate this gift. I would rate it 9 on 10. The screen is very special, it has the same feeling of reading a paper book, if the light setting is low. So I personally think that reading a kindle is not screen time.

My Experience

As you download offline for Netflix or Spotify, you similarly download books onto a Kindle and read them on it. Let me get back to my experience. I really like it. I can read books without the internet. I only need the internet to download them. They are purchased from Amazon. I charge only once a week and read at least 10 hours per week. I know that's super cool, but it's got something even cooler. It has almost all the books in the world in almost every language. Every time I read, I lose track of time. That's kind of annoying😅. I often read before bed. I technically get into the book. I received a Kindle as a gift in January 2025. So far, I’ve spent £119. That’s quite a lot for six months. I should make a spreadsheet to show you the prices, authors, and number of pages. Here it is. Kindle

My Thoughts

It has really helped me in class too. A year ago, my English vocabulary wasn’t very good. But now that I read on the Kindle, I can understand the meaning of every word as I use the dictionary.

My Real Feelings

I started reading books when I was 9. I began with Cupcake Girls by Coco Simon, the French version. A year later, I had finished the whole series. The next year, I read Harry Potter. It took me so long to read it because I had a very important exam that year. In January, my Uncle Lionel gave me a Kindle. I was so happy. I was just thinking about how I could get a new book without going to the bookstore. My uncle told me that it was much cheaper to have a Kindle than to go to the bookstore every two weeks.

I found the average amount of money I spend on my kindle everyday in Mauritian Rupees. Here is the equation I used

£119.45 in Mauritian Rupees 7349.16

Numbers of days since 1 of January to 22 of June 2025  =172

Rs 7349.16 divided by 172 = Rs 42.727

I compared it to my Ipad’s screen time,I usually read 2 hours per day.I use my Ipad more but I enjoy my kindle way more.

I compared it to my favourite app, Pinterest. My daily average is 58 mins and my kindle average time is 2 hours.I personally think that the kindle is better.

Creative Extras

Here are recommended books as a birthday gift for 10 to 13 years old kids. Lottie Brooks the whole series, Bex Carter  Dramadis, Julia Jones Diary.

A big thank you to Uncle Lionel Blackman.

What did I learn from writing this blog?

I learnt how to make a chart from spreadsheet,I compared the different screen times and I most importantly realised how much I like my kindle.
